Long Time, No Blog

Sorry for the lack of postings this past week. Things have been a bit hectic and with being somewhat in transition, it's been hard to sit down and write. I've now been unemployed for a full week, with my last day at OIT being June 8. My last official OIT duty was on the 9th as I presented three scholarships at Hosanna's graduation. The next day, I hopped a plane to LAX to join three Taylor University Fort Wayne staff at the annual North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals conference, held at Biola University. So I didn't get any break at all.

It was good to be back at the NACCAP meetings after a year's absence, and after seven years away from Christian higher education. Biola did a great job of hosting the conference--with the earthquake-pun theme of "Shake It Up"--and it was good to see so many old friends. Unfortunately, I didn't take a camera with me because I knew Jeannette would want it for her end-of-the-year activities at Hosanna and NACCAP hasn't posted any of the photos it took during the conference.

Jeannette finished her school year out with a trip to the park with all the preschoolers and preschool teachers. The boys also said their good-byes to friends at school. The high school kids actually had a going-away party for Phillip and Jordan during school last Monday, which I thought was pretty cool. All three boys took their uniform t-shirts to school and had everyone sign them as mementos.

On Thursday, my first "real" day off since retiring, I went to Hosanna for the elementary school chapel because Jameson was being recognized with a "David Award." David Awards are given to students who have "slain a giant" in their lives. Jamey's 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Anderson, talked about how he had often left his assignments undone earlier in the year but now has learned to follow through and even discovered that he enjoys writing. Afterwards, I hung around and helped serve a BBQ lunch to all the kids from kindergarten through 11th grade to cap off the year.

And, finally, to end today's post, a photo from this afternoon to give you your "Melody fix" for the week:
