19:45 - Unofficial

Jordan ran at the Elmhurst meet today and did much better than in his previous two starts. We didn't get an official time for him but one of the coaches had him clocked at 19 minutes, 45 seconds. He was Blackhawk's #1 runner today and finished 21st overall. Northrop High dominated with seven runners in the top 15.

Blackhawk's girls finished second in the team competition and had four runners in the top 15.

Aunt Laura's Visit (Continued)

Here are some more photos from Laura's time with us the last few days . . .

On Saturday we made our last trip of the year to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, using the season passes that Jeannette's brothers gave us for Christmas.

They don't make petting zoos like they used to. :-) One reviewer said, "It feels like a leather pillow." Yeah, a leather pillow that can swallow you whole.

There were a whole bunch of peacocks and their hatchlings running around the zoo, so we took time to feed one family some bread crumbs.

We did the sky safari ride again, even though there's no African safari to see until next year.

On Sunday, we did some family pictures in the back yard.

A new dress from Grandma Muntz . . .

This evening, Laura and I took MelodyJoy over to the Clarks' house and played on their trampoline . . .

20:01 - A Disappointing Day

This evening was Blackhawk Christian's only home cross country meet of the season and, frankly, probably Jordan's best chance to win a medal, since the competition consisted of small to medium sized high schools. The weather was good for running--overcast and cooler than it has been lately, and not too humid.

Unfortunately, this just wasn't his day. Jordan blames it on working too hard in practice yesterday. He ran the first two miles in 6:15 each but then fell off dramatically in the final third of the race, finishing in 20 minutes, 1 second. He didn't even finish as Blackhawk's #1 runner as Sam, a junior in his first year on the team, overtook him in the final stretch of the race. Jordan finished 11th. The top ten runners received ribbons or medals.

Blackhawk had three girls finish in the top ten and they won the team trophy on the female side of the competition.

First Day of School

Today was Melody's first day of school at Blackhawk Christian Preschool, so we had to take a few pictures. Clearly, the idea of going to school has lost its allure for Jameson.

We did hit a rough patch shortly after arriving at Miss Beth's classroom, but Miss Beth took care of things quickly and she settled right down (until she saw Miss Jeannette midmorning at snack break).
Today was Jeannette's first day of school, too, with her class full of 4-year-olds.
I may have better pictures to offer this weekend when Aunt Laura returns to Fort Wayne with all the photos in her camera from this morning.

Quote of the Week

“Compassion is when we’re all sitting on the side of a river watching people drown and respond by pulling people out. But justice is when somebody pokes their head up and says, ‘You know what? I’m going to go upstream and see who keeps throwing everybody into the river.’”
