Sterling Savings Bank Meet

Today was the largest track meet in Southern Oregon, with about 400 athletes gathering at Mazama High here in Klamath Falls. Schools of all sizes took part from throughout the area, including California.

Jordan ran the 3000 meters, of course, and was placed in the slower of the two heats. The nice thing about that was that his heat took place at the very start of the meet, while the second heat for some reason, was at the very end, so he was able to give his best effort. While the snow was gone, it was still pretty windy and chilly this afternoon so conditions were less than ideal. He was in 2nd place early in the race, fell back to 6th and then kicked to finish 4th in his heat with a new PR (barely) of 10:31.89. He still needs to trim some time off of that next week at districts but I think he's about 13th in the state right now for Single A runners. He might have done better today, too, if he hadn't been tripped several times.

Jordan also ran the 1500 and fell about 2 seconds short of his PR. Phillip was only able to do the 800 meters race today. His time was just over three minutes so he didn't set a new PR.

Last week, Jordan began trying the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. The Hosanna school record in this event is pretty anemic so he's thinking he might be able to set a new one before we leave town. I'm not very hopeful since he has to take about seven seconds off his current time in the next week in order to set a new mark. However, as he has noted, his form is still pretty poor so if he can correct that somewhat, who knows?

Mitch and Tami Mueller's oldest son, Winston, a junior at Henley High, won the 300 intermediate by a nose. He's about thirteen seconds faster than Jordan . . .
